Dr. Anagnostis Argiriou is Full Prof. at the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition of the Aegean University and former Deputy Director at the Institute of Applied Biosciences - Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB-CERTH). He got his Doctor of Biological Sciences degree cum laude in 1996 and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Medical Biotechnology in 2001 in Italy. From 2001 to 2003 he worked at CEINGE Biotecnologie Avanzate in Italy mainly to implement and improve human biodiagnostic protocols. In 2005 he joined the Institute of Agrobiotechnology in a Post Doctoral position and in 2006 became a researcher. From 2006 to 2016 he collaborated as external scientist with the Laboratory of Lipid Research and Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases of the 2nd Pediatric Clinic at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2020 accepted a Full Professor position at the University of the Aegean in the thematic area of Innovation Management in the AgriFood. Currently, as an Associate Faculty Member, he is the Director of the Food Science and Nutrition Laboratory and responsible for the Agri-Food and Nutrition Sector at the Institute of Applied Biosciences. As Professor at the University of the Aegean he teaches lessons related to Food Industry and Innovation Management.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
The field of prevailing scientific interests are the study of the genetic and epigenetic regulation of metabolic pathways in humans, the role of nutrition in the appearance of diseases as well as exploitation of genomic and proteomic technologies to improve plants and animal qualitative traits, their nutritional characteristics and the traceability of food products. Currently, he is involved in a series of research projects with Enterprises for the development of innovative food products in a sustainable and profitable way. Moreover, he collaborates as scientific advisor with food enterprises, associations and public authorities for the organization of the Agri-Food Cluster in the Region of Central Macedonia. In the last five years he worked on 26 National and International Projects as Coordinator or Principal Investigator.
